Taking Care of Business: 809 Gallery.
Solo Exhibition (Calgary, Alberta)
My art practice started in 2006 with an exhibition titled “Taking Care of Business.” This body of work was a performance/installation that depicted the social entrapment of the everyday white-collar workforce. The performance was the work process itself: I created a series of murals made of thousands of inkjet-printed Post-its that covered the gallery walls. The installation would last approximately 25 days; each day was structured around the 9 to 5 office work schedule. The exhibition traveled for two years to seven different venues across Canada.
The performance aspect of my work is the actual construction of the mural. The production of the photo-printed mural consists of consumer materials that can be found in a typical office space. I want the raw elements behind the creation of the project to be in the forefront: the physical space taken up, the artist’s repetitive movements, the materials used in full evidence. The exhibitions consists of approximately 12,000 post-its, and spans over 19 meters long and 3.5 meters tall.
